Don’t join Telstra’s “Adams Family”

The new Government has only been in for a few weeks and already Telstra executives have come out of their burrows. They are attempting to move workers across to the far inferior “Workchoices – AWA” style job “Adams” family system.

CEPU members would be aware that Telstra have issued a notice to employees outlining changes to incentive plans for 2013-2014. These changes are geared to benefit the company and not you.

The surveys you are currently being asked to fill out by Telstra are a farce.

Telstra’s initial correspondence said it was you who told them you wanted the incentive reviewed so why would Telstra now require the survey of the same employees they say already told them to change it?

This notice outlines Telstra’s heartfelt concern regarding unworkable incentive plans! Telstra claim that it was YOU who told them that these plans were unworkable. We know that this is just management spin.

Telstra use words in this notice to employees on changes to incentive plans such as:

”Strategic, focus, business goals, support, incentives, productivity, consistently and satisfaction bonus.”

They have failed to mention words such as:

”Come in spinner, underhanded, hocus pocus, sugar coated and bend over”

We advise members that moving to the job “Adams” family will impact on your long term ability to have decent wages and conditions! It’s a con!

The job “Adams” family system under the Telstra EBA allows the company to manipulate, change, vary, or even cease to apply bonuses whenever the bosses decide.

Most service delivery employees in NSW are currently work-stream employees under the Telstra EBA.

Work-stream guarantees workers annual pay increases and are not subject to management decided pay & performance incentives.

Job “Adams” family employees annual pay increases are not subject to guaranteed pay increases for all workers. In fact this systems works off a bell curve where some workers may receive a rise while many others miss out.

Work stream employees are currently employed under an agreed set of job descriptions between Telstra & your union as part of the Telstra EBA. Work stream job descriptions are locked in and are skills based on the training received and the work being performed.

Job “Adams” family position descriptions do away with years of skills and training under a system that has been designed, manipulated & can be changed at any time by Telstra executives only.

Telstra bosses own the Job “Adams” family system that has base rates of pay far lower than those negotiated and locked in by your union.

Any worker who chooses to go to the Telstra executives Job “Adams” family pay model & within 12 months does not return to work-stream and is locked into the Job Family inferior system for ever.

Telstra has been paying Work stream employees the incentives for more than 5 years!

It must be remembered that Telstra has now chosen to cease paying these incentives to Work-stream EA employees

Why is Telstra doing this?

Because no work-stream employee has or is moving to Telstra executives Job “Adams” Family pay model so;

Telstra removes the incentives from work-stream employees to job family hoping to dangle the carrot in front of workers to con them across to the management system.

Sound familiar! Isn’t this the same strategy used by Telstra to try and move ALL its workers to AWA some years ago – only for management to then reduce Job points & Incentives paid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Telstra were to succeed in their request to move the majority of workers across to its system Telstra executives would be free to do what-ever they desired with your pay, conditions & incentives.

Just think what it would be like at Telstra with the executives in full control.

Telstra field workers have experienced changes ongoing to the current incentive scheme & job points allocated for TOW’s and have never seen any decision made benefit them.

Any member who may be deciding to move from work-stream to job family should seek advice first from your Union by contacting Shane Murphy, Peter O’Connell or Phil Kessey on 02 9893 7822.
