CEPU formally rejects EBA7: new deal needed

Following Australia Post’s repeated rejection of calls to improve its EBA7 offer, the CEPU Divisional Executive unanimously supported the following motion today:

“The Divisional Executive notes the Divisional Secretary’s report regarding repeated efforts to reach agreement with Australia Post to improve the EBA7 offer for consideration by our Australia Post members.

The Divisional Executive further notes that the Corporation has rejected both the offer of a Common Law Agreement and the option to vary EBA6 as allowed under the Forward with Fairness transitional act.

In the meantime, Post has attempted to roll out workplace change across the country, with little regard for the job security and income impacts on our members.  This has significantly increased the number of disputes within Post – and demonstrated that stronger clauses on consultation and dispute resolution are required to protect our members during the life of the next enterprise agreement.

Additionally, Divisional Executive notes that the public has today rightly criticised the excessive salaries and bonuses paid to senior management in Australia Post – at a time when they refuse to provide greater job security to employees via EBA7 or the Common Law Agreement.

Divisional Executive authorises the Divisional Secretary to write to Australia Post and advise that the current EBA7 offer is no longer acceptable and that formal claims be placed on the Corporation for a new agreement that improves the wages and conditions offered to members.

Finally, members are to be actively consulted on the shape of a new agreement and the industrial campaign necessary to secure a new enterprise bargaining agreement in Australia Post.”

Where to next?

We’ll shortly write to the Managing Director of Australia Post informing him of our position – and outlining the things members want included in their next EBA.

If you have a view about what you want to see included in the next EBA in Post, you are urged to submit your views to the CEPU via your state branch or by emailing us at feedback@cepu.org
