The Communications Electrical and Plumbing Union (CEPU) congratulates Cameron Thiele on his election as Communications Divisional Secretary.
Mr Thiele said his focus would be on implementing major new workplace agreements within Australia Post and Telstra in a time of structural and technological change in the postal and telecommunications industries.
“The recent endorsement of a new Fair Work Agreement by our postal membership is the beginning of a new era in Australia Post. I will be making sure employees’ concerns are taken into account as Australia Post steers its operation toward a digital future.
“In Telstra, I will be overseeing the implementation of a new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement that ensures greater protections for the Telstra workforce still recovering from the removal of rights and conditions under WorkChoices.
“In telecommunications we also have the exciting challenge of the National Broadband Network. This is critical infrastructure for Australia and our Union will be working hard to achieve fair collective agreements for the NBN workforce that deliver skilled, secure jobs for Australian telecommunications workers.
“Technological change in our industries is unavoidable. What is important is that we move to the future with strong, skilled, secure workforces.”
Mr Thiele’s candidacy was endorsed this week by the CEPU Communications Divisional Executive, with his term beginning November 1.
He comes to the role after seven years serving the CEPU as Queensland Branch Secretary and 22 years as a union official. Before joining the CEPU Mr Thiele worked in delivery for Australia Post.
