Foxtel ignores installer exploitation

A statement from Foxtel saying new contracts that exploit subcontractors and impose cuts in pay and unfair fines have nothing to do with them is disingenuous and insulting says the CEPU – the Communications Union.

CEPU NSW Assistant Secretary Shane Murphy said that Foxtel has every power over which contractors they select to provide installers of Foxtel boxes in customer’s homes.

“These contractors are exploiting installers and its time that Foxtel took responsibility for the way their contractors treat workers.

“Installers are the face of Foxtel. They are the ones who meet customers and install Foxtel boxes. Foxtel can’t possibly expect anyone to believe this has nothing to do with them.”

Mr Murphy said that only today he had spoken with an installer who been fined for taking time off when his one-year-old daughter was rushed to hospital unexpectedly.

“It is a sad day when a company with profits like Foxtel’s is prepared to sit back and let a father of 5 children be fined for wanting to be at his daughter’s side in hospital.”

Installers launched their Fair Go Foxtel campaign today calling on Foxtel to intervene to ensure their installers are given fair and reasonable contracts.

The campaign is supported the ACTU and Unions NSW.
