We will not be publishing the breakdown of the results of this particular survey feedback section for the obvious reasons, given management would be very interested indeed to what members are prepared to do or not do within options for campaign initiatives and therefore provide management with a plan for their defensive strategy if at anytime is needed.
But in saying this, it was fairly clear and direct that the overwhelming majority of members have indicated support for any considerations adopted by their union along with the preparedness to participate in a range of campaign activities approved by the union if necessary and for the purpose of advancing claims to reach a new fair and reasonable EBA8.
Reproduced below are some of the EBA8 survey ‘personal responses’ that were in common in nature from members
Job Security – “We keep seeing mail volume in decline. Our mail trucks are getting lighter. But we keep seeing contractors doing our work. Before Post thinks about job cuts and closing post offices, how about killing off the contractors and the LPOs first? We keep hearing about the competition, but Post continues to create its own competition when it comes to contractors and LPOs. Let’s look after our own backyard first.”
Protecting Award Entitlements and Redundancy Benefits – “I think we need to protect all our Award entitlements and especially our redundancy benefits. Unions have fought for these things over the last 100 years and if we lose them now we’ll never get them back – especially if we get another anti-worker government.”
Fair Pay Rise – “We need decent pay rises to meet our cost of living pressures. Our electricity is going up, our water is going up and the cost of treating my kids to an ice cream every once and a while is getting further from reach.”
No Pay Rise Delay This Time – Back to Back EBA a Must- “I hope we are able to get a back to back EBA this time without waiting and Post keeping our pay rise as their savings. We need a pay rise without delay and the longer we wait for a new EBA the longer we go without a pay rise.”
Safeguard Superannuation Benefit – “My Superannuation is important. Employers only have to pay us 9% by law. The benefits we get at Post are half of what makes the job worth it in the end. Don’t let Post near our super!”
Understaffed and taken for Granted – “I am sick of coming in to work early and leaving late without pay and getting no thanks in return. If we didn’t put in the extra time, we would not get the day’s work done. It used to be give and take, now it’s just take, take, take. Every time we have a review it always says we are overstaffed.”
