Australia Post estimated 900 head count job reduction – member update

Australia Post – CEPU/CPSU Head Count Job Reduction Meeting of 30 July 2014

Members are informed of a further meeting held with State and National CEPU/CPSU Officials by Australia Post on 30 July 2014 in relation to the proposed Head Count Job reductions within Australia Post nationwide. Your Branch Secretary Jim Metcher was in attendance at this meeting representing NSW/ACT.

378 Roles to be Reduced by September 2014 – 222 Contract and 156 Award Roles

At this meeting Australia Post provided additional information to the Union (embargoed until COB 1 August 2014) in relation to 378 roles that have been identified to be reduced within the organisation by September 2014. The 378 roles identified to date are part of the estimated 900 nationwide head count reduction by the end of 2015. Of these 378 roles, there are 222 identified within the contract management level (non-award) and 156 identified within award roles.

Of the 156 award roles nationally, 31 have been identified to be located in NSW/ACT and are reproduced at the bottom of this bulletin.

Where to from here?

Consultation continues to occur at the State level between Australia Post and the NSW Branch in terms of the 31 Award roles identified to be reduced within NSW/ACT.  Presently, your NSW Branch Officials are undertaking assessments to the impact of workplaces and/or are endeavouring to make contact with all 31 affected employees (where union membership applies) who are attached to the 31 award roles for reduction within NSW/ACT.

The union will be holding further consultation on specific areas with Australia Post on those roles that require further consideration from being abolished and/or where an affected member requires to continue in their employment within Australia Post as against facing retrenchment

Following this process, all affected employees will then be subject to being managed under the terms and conditions of the Australia Post RRR Agreement.

Redundancy Swaps Register Update

As at 28 July 2014, there have been 467 employees nationwide with 240 NSW and 5 ACT employees who have registered their name for redundancy swap. The register has been promoted over recent time by Australia Post for allowing employees to register their name for a redundancy swap where a match can be made for keeping an affected surplus employee in their employment within Australia Post as against facing retrenchment.
