The emerging COVID-19 pandemic is like nothing any of us have experienced in our lifetimes. And it is requiring a response that places your health and your livelihood first and foremost.
As we continue to navigate through this uncharted territory, we are engaging with Australia Post at the highest levels, daily, in order to assess the situation as it continues to emerge, the impact on your major customers, the flow-on impact to Australia Post and how that affects your employment.
At this time, our complete focus is on maintaining paid employment for members as we watch some of the biggest employers in the country rapidly shedding staff.
The complete impact of the pandemic on Post’s business will not be known for some time, but early indicators are already having an effect on some operations.
Whilst navigating through these effects, difficult decisions are being made along the way to curb discretionary spending in impacted areas in an effort to sustain ongoing employment costs.
An area where significant impact is becoming evident is across customer pickups and SPB clearances.
In order to mitigate against this, Australia Post has today cancelled Sunday overtime shifts across many van services centres for the foreseeable future.
Those workplaces impacted are:
Alexandria, Brookvale, St Leonards, Mount Kuring-Gai, North Ryde, Kingsgrove, Kirrawee, North Wollongong, Eastern Creek, Castle Hill, Smeaton Grange, Chullora, Leightonfield, Tuggerah, Newcastle.
