The SBD review process and audit examination continues under work groups established with the involvement of representatives of your union at the national, state and local level.
These work groups are covering SBD matters associated with;
- A comparison study of SBD and single bundle delivery to determine whether the reported 30 min per day cost savings to the organisation are realistic as against what is really occurring with additional overall time to perform work under SBD. This study is being undertaken at Alexandria and Leightonfield Delivery Facilities – NSW
- The ongoing feasibility of the current SBD Front Letter Carrier. This study is being undertaken at Rockhampton and Caboolture Delivery Facilities and Coopers Plains Equipment Depot – QLD
- OH&S issues that include but are not limited to: reading and riding, performing SBD on hilly terrain, P400 incident reports, eye strain, cognitive problems, meal breaks, access to amenities and mail security. This study is being undertaken at Mount Waverly Delivery Facility – VIC
- An audit of all SBD rounds rolled out to date in terms of indoor and outdoor actual time taken to perform work offering under single bundle and separate bundle up to the date of SBD being suspended. This audit is being undertaken involving National and all State Branches of your union
Union and Australia Post talks held in Sydney – Wednesday 26 October 2011
Further talks between theUnionand Australia Post were held inSydneyonWednesday 26 October 2011. The talks involved the assessment of the information gathered on the abovementioned SBD reviews and audit processes to date.
Agreement was reached between theUnionand Australia Post for more time being required to complete the SBD reviews and audit processes.
Therefore any further training or roll out of SBD on any round remains suspended across the nation.
The next meeting between theUnionand Australia Post on this SBD dispute matter is scheduled forFriday 4 November 2011.
Again, SBD rollout remains suspended until Monday 7 November for further determination or otherwise by Australia Post.
An Important Message for all Members Currently Performing SBD Work Functions
Your Union along with fellow members wish to acknowledge the members who are reporting frustrations with currently performing SBD work functions that is contributing to additional fatigue caused by excessive overtime above ordinary hours of duty.
However the flip side to this situation is where members are reporting greater access to additional income caused by SBD and have even tagged SBD as “Mealie Bundles”
The contribution being made by members performing SBD work functions and importantly in a safe manner is successfully contributing to the validation exercise to what is occurring with SBD in terms of being a inappropriate work practice that delivers nothing other than an inefficient, costly and poor mail delivery service.
If members are feeling the strain in this regard, then they can exercise the right with limiting their availability with performing unreasonable levels of overtime.
If there are other pressing reasons for not being able to undertake SBD work functions at this stage of the dispute then those particular members are urged to contact the union state office and speak with their union official of such circumstances to receive appropriate advice accordingly.
Further information will be reported to all delivery members on the outcome of this SBD audit/review.
