CEPU national office representatives along with senior Australia Post management including the Managing Director met with 21 Postal Delivery Officers from all states in the last week of September on the controversial Separate Bundle Delivery (SBD) system of work.
Health and Safety concerns along with SBD being a costly inefficient work practice featured during these talks.
The 21 posties who attended this meeting involved 11 nominated by the Union and 10 nominated by management – all 21 posties were highly critical of the SBD work practice.
Following these discussions, senior Australia Post management met again with CEPU national delivery representatives to negotiate a way forward to address the many concerns over SBD. Australia Post has now agreed to suspend the further rollout of SBD from today’s date for a 2 week period to allow for a comprehensive joint union/ management audit and review of the SBD system of work.
The following represents the agreed process for the SBD joint audit/review:
- Joint working parties consisting of Post senior management and CEPU officials will commence from tomorrow, Tuesday 11 October, to examine the key OH&S issues of concern. This will involve a comparison study of SBD and single bundle delivery to determine whether the reported 30 min per day cost savings to the organisation are realistic as against what is really occurring with additional overall time to perform work under SBD.
- The joint working parties will also examine the ongoing feasibility of the current SBD Front Letter Carrier
- OH&S issues to be examined include but are not limited to: reading and riding, performing SBD on hilly terrain, P400 incident reports, eye strain, cognitive problems, meal breaks, access to amenities and mail security.
- During this period of 2 weeks, management will not conduct any further training or implement any further roll out of SBD in any workplace across the country. This will allow for the comparison study to occur together with an audit/review of all SBD rounds to date.
Further information will be reported to all delivery members on the outcome of this SBD audit/review.
