SBD Rollback Continues

Following further discussions with Australia Post it has been agreed for ‘individual’ SBD rounds to be jointly assessed at the local level for conversion back to single bundle delivery where SBD is not the most effective methodology.

In the most recent SBD Dispute Update on 11 November 2011, members were informed of the following agreed criterion for initial SBD rollback:

“Present Criterion at this stage for Initial SBD Rollback

Australia Post has agreed for the process to commence for existing SBD rounds to convert back to single bundle delivery.  The agreed criterion for SBD rounds to be converted back to single bundle delivery is where an existing SBD round:

• contains more than 50% business delivery points or has sufficient density (high amount of units)
• receives less than 70% sequenced mail on average; or
• where it is believed that a particular round is determined (jointly assessed between Australia Post and Union) that SBD is not considered the most effective methodology

It is estimated that approximately 300-500 present SBD rounds will initially be converted back to single bundle delivery as a result of this agreed process to date.’

LOCAL MANAGERS PROVIDED AUTHORITY TO ROLL BACK SBD ROUNDS FOLLOWING JOINT ASSESSMENT INVOLVING LOCAL UNION REPRESENTATIVE(S)

All local managers have now been provided the authority from senior Australia Post management for determining any SBD round to be converted back to single bundle delivery following a joint assessment involving the local authorised union representative(s) (AUR).

The terms of ‘not being the most effective methodology’ can be for individual health and safety reasons, hilly terrain or such matters as excessive outdoor delivery time under SBD compared to performing same work under single bundle delivery etc.

All union representatives and members performing work on a SBD round are encouraged to exercise this joint assessment with their local manager accordingly, if they believe the SBD round is not the most effective methodology.

Any disagreements in terms of the application or outcome of this SBD joint review process on individual SBD rounds are to be elevated to your union official without delay so that the individual circumstances can be registered and raised at the state and/or national level.
