EBA8: Bargaining commences and campaign website launched live online

The Australia Post Fair Work Agreement (APFWA) will reach its nominal expiry date on 31 July 2013 and your Union commenced negotiations with Australia Post this week in advancing claims for a new EBA8. Encouragingly, both the Union and Australia Post have committed to meeting as regularly as three minimum full days per fortnight in an attempt to reach agreement on EBA8 as soon as possible and hopefully prior to the present APFWA expiry date.

What are we asking for?

Although the Union has formulated its claims around a fair pay rise, job security, full time jobs, training and safety, it is important that your views as a Union member and the issues you confront in your workplace on a daily basis are taken into close consideration when employing the Union’s bargaining strategy. Therefore, we are encouraging you to ensure you have your voice heard by completing the Union’s EBA8 survey which will be arriving in members’ letterboxes shortly.

Alternatively, you can complete this important survey online now at the Union’s new EBA8 website: www.eba8.org

How long will it take to reach a new Agreement?

Your Union has already met with Australia Post to determine guidelines and protocols for good faith bargaining, including timeframes for reaching a new Agreement.

It is clear that both the Union and Australia Post intend on reaching agreement as soon as possible.

What happens if there is no new Agreement by July 31?

Nothing – it’s business as usual. The APFWA will continue to govern our members’ terms and conditions of employment at Australia Post until a new EBA8 replaces it.

How can I contribute and make a difference to achieve a fair Agreement?

You can make a difference as small as by making sure that ALL your workmates are members of the CEPU and are active within the campaign. The best place to start is sending them to the EBA8 website where they can join online and get involved in the campaign.

Active participation in this campaign is crucial, and a dedicated new EBA8 website will help to achieve this outcome

You are encouraged to visit the website www.eba8.org regularly from your PC or even from your mobile phone where you will receive the most up to date information on the progress with your EBA8 campaign.

However, the website is not just a one-way communication street from the Union toyou. It contains features allowing you to update important contact information with the Union, completing online polls and surveys, downloading resources and tools for keeping your workplace organised and very importantly – a feature that provides the ability to upload any EBA8 related material that you receive from Australia Post or other parties, even directly from your smartphone.

The EBA8 website also contains links to the Union’s Facebook and Twitter pages which we encourage you to subscribe to.

In closing

We will keep all members informed of progress through a number of different communication channels including workplace circulars, e-mail bulletins, SMS messaging, telephone contact, Facebook, Twitter and as mentioned above, the new dedicated EBA8 website www.eba8.org
