Your Union has today welcomed Westpac and NAB’s decision to invest in local communities through vital banking services to be offered across Australia Post outlets.
This follows the Commonwealth Bank’s announcement last week to commit to Australia Post’s Bank@Post service. We’re now calling on ANZ to follow suit in committing to this important service for their customers across the country.
The Australia Post agreement, now with CBA, Westpac and NAB will improve services and secure continuing access for customers to conduct withdrawal, deposit, balance enquiries and passbook services at more than 3500 Post Offices across the country.
CEPU Communications Union NSW Branch Secretary and National President Shane Murphy said “It’s fantastic news that Westpac, NAB and CBA are all committing to delivering this vital service for customers and investing in local jobs and communities across Australia.
“The Union has been pushing Australia Post to deliver agreements and services like this for a long time, so it’s fantastic to see three of the four big banks now committing to this.
“Now it’s time for ANZ to step up and join the party.
“Until now, the big banks have slowly but surely deserted our local communities.
“And our members working in post offices across the country, who are incredibly community minded, are perfectly positioned to play a role in providing customers with the local, professional service they want and deserve.
“We want to ensure every community continues to have access to a quality physical, local retail postal service.
“The times are changing and the way we deliver services to our communities needs to change too, but the need for people to have a physical place to go and sort out their essential services hasn’t changed.
“Post offices play a vital role in local communities. Not only do they provide jobs, but they also provide an important local service for communities. We hope that ANZ look at this and decide to follow suit.”
