Since we last wrote to you, Australia Post has taken some time to work through the substantial log of claims submitted on behalf of CWU members for this round of bargaining for a new EBA11. In case you missed it, you can download a copy of those claims by clicking here.

Whilst this process continues, Australia Post has provided a preliminary response to some of our claims, in a non-prejudicial manner, and some informal discussions have continued. Formal bargaining meetings are set to resume over the next few weeks.

However, in news that members will be comforting to members, we are pleased to confirm that your CWU bargaining team and Australia Post have reached agreement, in principle, around our claim related to the retention of the Retraining, Redeployment and Redundancy (RRR) Agreement. That is, Australia Post have agreed that any new EBA11 offer will retain the current RRR Agreement, unaltered and in its entirety.

Our EBA RRR provisions have been an incredibly important part of our successive EBAs with Australia Post that have ensured appropriate and fair processes are followed whenever our members find themselves in surplus employment situations.

It is a key mechanism in ensuring our members benefit from significantly secure jobs at Australia Post, and provides severance benefits up to 5 times higher than the legislated safety-net.

Agreement on this significant claim is an important step in the right direction as we prepare to recommence formal discussions over the next few weeks in our continued efforts to secure a new EBA11 that delivers the recognition, respect and job security our members want, and deserve.

We’ll keep you up to date as the bargaining process continues.
