Following many months of discussions with Australia Post, I am pleased to report to members that your Union has secured a significant increase to the Retail shoe subsidy.
Members’ feedback has been consistent – the shoe subsidy was out of date and no longer kept pace with the reality of our retail members’ footwear requirements.
As such, we have secured an important agreement with Australia Post which has increased the Retail shoe subsidy to up to $250 per annum, for eligible members.
Importantly, this agreement backdates the subsidy with an effective date of 1 January, 2024. For members who have already claimed their shoe subsidy for up to $141 this calendar year, if you spent more than $141, you can be reimbursed the remaining difference you have spent, up to $250 – so long as this remains a reimbursement for the single claim. Members are only eligible to make a single claim each calendar year.
If you have already been reimbursed more than $250 for hosiery in a calendar year however, you are only able to claim up to the $141 shoe subsidy.
We are proud of this outcome – the result of many months of discussion and clear feedback from members that the previous subsidy just wasn’t keeping pace with members’ requirements.
Outcomes like this are not just won at the negotiating table. Our strength and influence comes directly from the backing of thousands of CWU members in post offices across the country – speaking with one voice, through their Union.
This significant outcome is just another demonstration of the value of CWU membership in retail at Australia Post and why your colleagues, who may not yet be members, should join today.
