Union secures increases to district, travelling and motor vehicle allowance rates at Australia Post

For some time, the Union has advocated for an increase to the Travelling Allowance rates, payable to members who are required to travel whilst undertaking their duties at Australia Post, and the District Allowance rates, payable to members living and working in certain remote localities.

We are pleased to announce that those rates have now been increased.

The new table of travelling allowance rates are specified in Schedule 5 of the Australia Post Principal Determination, with the district allowance rates being contained in Schedule 6. An effective date of 1 November 2024 applies to both allowances and a copy of the complete Principal Determination can be downloaded by clicking here.

In addition to the increased travelling allowance, the Motor Vehicle Allowance rate has also been amended to provision for a flat rate of 85 cents, per kilometre.

This update applies to all members who are required to use their personal vehicles for work-related travel, regardless of the type of vehicle you drive. This amendment to the motor vehicle allowance aims to better compensate for fuel costs, maintenance, and wear-and-tear on your vehicle.

This increase in allowances is another example of how your Union is working hard to advocate for improvements to conditions and benefits for Australia Post members as we continue to navigate this cost of living crisis.

As we close out 2024, we are committed to continuing this push throughout 2025, and beyond.
