CWU AURs and Officials from across Australia will meet with Australia Post senior management next week to set the priorities for Linehaul moving forward.

The “Linehaul Forum” was developed following CWU AUR demands to stop to the current unacceptable situation regarding the use of contractors.

On behalf of our AURs and members, Central Branch Secretary and National President Shane Murphy and National Secretary Greg Rayner made representations to the Australia Post CEO, highlighting the mess that Linehaul has become. The CEO responded to our representations with a commitment to undertake a review of the entire Linehaul operation, with this Linehaul Forum being the result.

The Forum is the first step in ensuring that Australia Post re-prioritise the operation and get back to allowing CWU members the opportunity to provide effective and efficient services rather than just hiving off work to any Johnny come lately contractor.

The CWU understands that the road transport sector is highly competitive, meaning skills shortages are a major challenge. However, unless Australia Post starts investing in their own people and encouraging employment opportunities, their business will continue to decline.

CWU AURs and Officials will be demanding a reset at this historic forum and we will keep members regarding our progress.

In the meantime, should you require any further information, please contact Branch Assistant Secretaries Peter Chaloner, Cameron Bird or Nick Townsend, or Branch Officials Phil Kessey, Robbie McLauchlan or Lisa Bahls on (02) 9893 7822 from NSW and the ACT, (07) 3255 0440 from QLD or (08) 8443 7389 from SA and the NT.
