Posties across NSW and the ACT are revelling in the return of Gore-Tex wet weather gear.

Australia Post did away with Gore-Tex years ago – a move that has had CEPU members up in arms ever since.

Members, for far too long, have been forced to deliver mail in a number of iterations of sub-par gear which constantly left members soaked, cold and even sick, as a result.

Our members never stopped in their fight to see the return of the much-loved garments – Branch Assistant Secretary Peter Chaloner, who was instrumental in the Union’s fight to see Gore-Tex return, said the Branch hadn’t given up, either.

“Every postie across the country has experienced it – that feeling of dread as the dark clouds of an impending downpour rolled in across our regions and cities as our members prepared to start their runs.” Said Peter.

“From leaks, to complete drenchings – the failed experiments from a number of different manufacturers over the years has served as an expensive lesson for Post, and our members unfortunately paid the price through their frustrations.

“But we didn’t give up. At every opportunity – we’d be there advocating for Gore-Tex’s return, until Post finally agreed.

“It might’ve taken longer than we’d liked, but now it’s back.”

The new garments are not actually manufactured by Gore-Tex, who stopped producing their own pieces in favour of licensing out the technology to third parties, but perform identically in terms of providing exceptional protection from water and wind, whilst remaining breathable to keep wearers dry and comfortable.

The new wet weather gear incorporating Gore-Tex technology is now available to order and will be shipped as ordered.

The Union has received feedback in other states of local managers denying order requests for the new gear under the fair wear and tear policy. Should you have any issues with your order approval locally, please contact Branch Assistant Secretary Peter Chaloner or Branch Officials Cade Anderson, Phil Kessey, TK Ly, Liam Murphy, Peter O’Connell, Giselle Saba, Dharmpal Singh or Dennis Williams on (02) 9893 7822 for assistance.
